Handcrafted Saw Handle and Sanding Block:Torii

Handcrafted Saw Handle and Sanding Block

Using the triangular sandpaper and saw blade from the charity sale at our previous event, Torii crafted a wooden pad to attach the sandpaper, a handle for the saw blade, and a leather sheath.

Doll Furniture Making:Takahashi & Terauchi

1/6 scale doll furniture

Takahashi and Terauchi, who also participated in our workshop at last month’s DIY show, are enjoying making 1/6 scale miniature furniture for dollhouses.

To make it easy to store, they made the furniture foldable and disassemblable. They also used wood joinery with a laser cutter because just glue wasn’t strong enough.

They attended for the first time to see if the Sugita-style saw guide for rip cuts could be used for small wood joinery. Their main business is leather crafting, making small items they sell at local markets, and they hope to eventually add miniature furniture to their lineup.

The Art of Making Wooden Bells:Abe

Crafting wooden bells

After seeing our booth at the DIY show last month, He is participating for the first time.

His specialty is crafting wooden bells. After shaping a block of wood into a sphere, he uses a mini router, similar to the ones used by dentists, to hollow out the inside.

He showed an amazing technique using a mini router to hollow out the inside of the bell, leaving the bead inside.

Bells are often made by creating two halves, placing the bead inside, and then gluing them together. But it’s said that Abe is the only one who can carve a bell from a single block of wood.

A Moxon vise intended for use on top of a workbench:Dalton

自作のモクソンバイス
self-crafted Moxon vise

Dalton presented his self-crafted Moxon vise, specifically built for use on a workbench, offering an efficient clamping solution for various woodworking tasks.

The Moxon vise is designed to clamp materials between two bolts, tightening from both the left and right sides. It’s especially useful for securely holding wide boards that are difficult to clamp with a regular bench vise.

Dalton says, ‘The Moxon vise elevates your woodworking in two ways: the quality of your projects and the height at which you’re sawing.’

A homemade horizontal vise:SUGA56

While a standard bench vise holds workpieces with its clamping jaws facing upward, SUGA56 designed a custom horizontal vise that fits into the bench vise, with its jaws positioned sideways.

This innovative design makes crosscutting materials more efficient.
